Republican Chairman Wilson criticizes Democrats over their LGBTI Caucus!
Chairman Tom Wilson owes LGBTI New Jerseyans and all Americans an apology for Republican leadership’s failure to secure basic protections for all citizens
Edison, NJ -New Jersey Stonewall Democrats President Barbra Casbar issued the following statement in response to GOP Chairman Tom Wilson’s demand for the NJ Democratic State Committee to apologize to the members of NJ Stonewall Democrats.
“Sometimes friends and families do have some misunderstandings, but as responsible adults we can come together, clarify and reconcile perceived differences, learn and move on. NJ Stonewall Democrats and the NJ State Democratic Committee have done that, and now have a much better meeting of the minds.
Indeed it is Chairman Wilson who owes the New Jersey’s LGBTI community an apology to explain why there is only one Republican sponsor of the law to protect transgender NJ citizens form discrimination, when the Garden State Equality/Zogby poll shows that Republican voters favor such legislation by more than two to one. Will he apologize to the LGBTI community for only one of six NJ Republican congressmen willing to vote for a Federal Hate Crimes Law which was transgender inclusive and actually passed in the House, only to be stalled by Tom Delay and the Republican leadership? Will he apologize to the LGBTI community for State Senator Tom Kean Jr’s, resounding “NO” vote for the NJ Domestic Partnership Act, which was supported by six Republicans, exposing young Mr. Kean to be as moderate as Jesse Helms on LGBT civil rights?
Will Mr. Wilson apologize to ALL Americans for the failed “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Military policy which has weakened our national security by discharging needed, competent and willing patriotic Americans by virtue of their being lesbian or gay? Will Mr. Wilson apologize to all Americans for a sitting Vice President with direct stock options in Halliburton which has received billions of dollars of no bid military contracts paid by the tax dollars borne by our middle class?
When Chairman Wilson apologizes for these irrefutable facts, I will consider his “demand” for an apology from the NJSDC to our membership.”
